Frederick County National Bank (FCNB) needed to expand
its headquarters and link them to nearby property. The
headquarters, a Roman Revival building at the corner
of Market and Patrick streets, was built in 1911, with
a 1972 addition. The expansion space consisted of two
adjacent Victorian buildings on Market Street. The resulting
complex doubled the Bank's useable space.
To
marry the buildings while preserving the 1885 structure,
we designed an addition to blend the two styles. The
existing storefronts of the Victorian buildings were
demolished and redesigned. In addition, the interior
of the Victorian properties was demolished and renovated
for office use. FCNB became the first bank in downtown
Frederick to offer handicapped access. This project
earned the Frederick City's Historic District Commission's
first Historic Preservation Award upon its completion.
