Child care and youth centers have unique needs. For the Frederick County Family YMCA's childcare addition, we made judicious use of the 7,600 square feet available.

Childcare is on the lower level of the main facility. There are three new childcare rooms, each designed for a specific age group and complemented by its own color scheme. Each room has its own restrooms, kitchen sink, and storage cabinets. A drop-in babysitting facility for members and an outside play area were also added. Parents can now drop off and pick up their children from a separate controlled entrance.

We located the Youth Center near the main entrance and member services desk for security and control purposes. Then we divided the Youth Center into two areas, so that in the larger space young people would have privacy along with game tables, couches, and a television. The smaller space serves as a computer center and staff meeting room.
