The Nature Center is the centerpiece of new development at Catoctin Creek Park and features a discovery room for exhibits along with two large program rooms to supplement outdoor education offered by Frederick County Public Schools. Orientation of the building offers access to Catoctin Creek for study and pleasure.

The building was designed with sustainable materials, energy efficient lighting, and a geothermal HVAC system. A vegetated “green” roof is accessible to visitors and the building's green features are showcased to introduce the public to environmentally sustainable building concepts.
