Designed to achieve LEED silver certification, this project balances state of the art animal care design with environmental sensitivity. Incorporating the latest thinking regarding animal well-being, the project contains warm, open spaces for animal holding. The public enters through a light filled adoption lobby, which adjoins cat and dog feature areas where animals are showcased in private rooms. Daylight fills the majority of the animal holding areas, as well as the surgery suite and staff offices. A vegetated green roof, water efficient plumbing fixtures, magnetic bearing chillers, and high efficiency boilers used in conjunction with energy recovery ventilators help minimize the building’s environmental impact.
