PHILOSOPHY
MISSION
Proffitt & Associates Architects is committed to development of sensitive design solutions, each of which represents a creative response to the surrounding context. By taking cues from the natural as well as the built environment, and integrating those with each individual client's goals and feedback, we are able to create innovative structures that transform vision into reality.
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
Great buildings are ones that embrace and facilitate the needs and desires of their occupants on both conscious and subconscious levels, acting as sheltering and nurturing vessels - their primary goal is to provide an environment in which human interaction is able to occur with ease, free of distraction or discomfort.
SUSTAINABILITY
Proffitt & Associates recognizes the enormous impact that the construction industry has on our environment. In an effort to be responsible stewards of the Earth, we strive to lessen our environmental footprint in our design work and in our everyday lives. In 1970, Michael Proffitt partnered with local builders to design passive solar housing to be constructed on the outskirts of Frederick, and since that time, our firm has worked creatively to preserve our natural resources and care for our planet.
As members of the U.S. Green Building Council since 2006, we have successfully certified Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) projects and have several future projects on the boards. Our on-staff LEED Accredited Professionals provide in-depth knowledge of sustainable design and proven experience with LEED certification. Even before LEED was developed, the firm completed an innovative and sustainable adaptive re-use of a historic gothic dairy barn in Dickerson, Maryland for Montgomery County. The project included composting toilets, on-site greywater treatment, and translucent insulated fiberglass skylights.

As architects and as people, Proffitt & Associates strives to improve the community in which we live and work.
