NEW EDUCATIONAL FACILITY FOR:
FRIENDS MEETING SCHOOL
IJAMSVILLE, MARYLAND
COMPLETION DATE: 2009
$2,585,000 | 22,438 SF
The goal of this design-build project was to provide a new two-story secondary education building at the existing Friends Meeting School in Ijamsville, Maryland. The new building contains classrooms for the middle school, a gymnasium with boys and girls locker rooms, a performing arts space with stage, a cafeteria and serving area, and an administrative suite including reception, offices, conference room, and staff lounge. The structure was designed with tilt-up concrete exterior walls for strength and ease of maintenance. Its massing and aesthetics were intended to be sensitive to the character of early Quaker architecture and principles of the Quaker faith.
